Frank Matagrano

Frank Matagrano of New Milford was 75 when he passed away Friday, December 22nd. Born and raised in New York City, Frank was a loyal friend and dedicated volunteer in his community of New Milford for over 50 years. A life member of New Milford Fire Company #1, Frank was an active and dedicated firefighter. Over his decades of service, Frank served the Fire Company as an Engineer and Trustee who received Firefighter of the Year Award in 1998, a unit citation in 1991 and a Distinguished Volunteer Service Award in 1993. Frank was also an accomplished artist, photographer, and woodworker. The "Last of the Blacksmiths," Frank retired after 35 years with the Metropolitan Transit Authority where he worked as a blacksmith repairing or servicing machinery and creating parts for the transit authority. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, the late Mariline (nee Salerno). Frank is survived by his loving children; Francine Ferrara and her husband Ed, Frank Matagrano and his wife Erica, and Michael Matagrano and his wife Lisa. He was the devoted brother of Joseph Matagrano, Teddy Matagrano, Irma Villani, Sal Matagrano, Anna Conte, and Rosie Lepurge. Frank was predeceased by his brother the late John Matagrano. He was the doting grandfather of his twin granddaughters, Angelina and Beatrice. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, January 29th, from 2pm-6pm at the Church of the Ascension School, 256 Azalea Drive, New Milford. A Firefighter's Prayer Service will be offered at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the New Milford Fire Company #1, 249 Center Street, New Milford, NJ, 07646.
