Hoy Chin Obituary



CHIN
Hoy Hing, 63, formerly of Fair Lawn and River Edge, died Wednesday, March 12 in New York City after a year-long fight with nasopharyngeal cancer. Born March 17, 1950 in Guangzhou, China, he emigrated to the U.S. at the age of seven, grew up in Fair Lawn, and attended college in his favorite city, Athens, OH. A retired restaurateur, Hoy was a visionary, opening the first Chinese restaurant in southeastern Ohio, Hop Sing, in 1974; charismatically owned and operated a chain of restaurants, First Wok, in northern New Jersey in the 1980-1990s; and most recently and happily co-owned and operated the Columbus Road Diner in Athens, OH. A devoted father, son, brother, uncle and friend, he is survived by his children, daughter Alice (Philip Kaminski), sons Albert and Benjamin; his parents, Foo Ying and Pak Sam; sisters Fong (Marc Dworkin) and Lyn, brothers Quon (Junie Rhee), Hong (Lilar) and Joe; three nieces and five nephews; and many beloved friends.
