Hugo Duran Obituary

DURAN Dr. Hugo Jr., 46, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008 in his longtime hometown of San Diego, CA. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he lived in Woodbridge and then Edison, NJ. He graduated St. Francis of Assisi Grammar School and then St. Joe's High School, both in Metuchen. He went on to graduate from Boston College and received his medical degree in Dentistry from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. He was a sports enthusiast and avid outdoorsman, enjoying everything from hiking to kayaking to golf. Hugo moved to San Diego in 1988 and soon after served as an officer in the US Navy, finding adventure on his tours around the world on the Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier. He then settled into private practice. Hugo was a highly respected dentist and loved helping people. He practiced his profession with a passion. He enjoyed the great outdoors most especially with his beloved daughter, Marielle, with whom he shared a special bond. A devoted father, he nurtured her sense for adventure, travel and athletics. He was an active member of the Adventure Dad's Club at her school as well as the Indian Princess Group for dad's and daughters. Hugo is survived by his wife Lori, daughter Marielle as well as his loving parents Dr. Hugo and Mary Duran and his siblings Diane, Robert and Nancy. He was dearly loved by those who had the great fortune to know him and will be missed by all. A funeral mass was held on Monday, April 28 at Mary, Star of the Sea in La Jolla, CA. There will be a Memorial mass on Saturday, June 7 at 11:30 at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Park Ridge, NJ.

To the Duran family,

My name is John Smith and I'm a 1980 graduate with Hugo from Saint Joseph's High School. I was reading the Home News tonight and read about Hugo's very untimely passing.
I am very sorry to read about Hugo and want to say I'm very sorry for your loss and also I'd like to offer my condolences to the Duran family.
Hugo was always a very intelligent, respectful person and someone that I always admired greatly.
