Ida Pompeo Obituary

POMPEO
Ida Teresa (D'Ambrosio), a resident of Clifton, NJ for 52 years, passed away on Saturday morning, January 28, 2017.
Born in a tiny hilltop village in Italy, Ida moved to the Bronx, NY, USA at the age of 18 months. She attended high school at the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula, Bronx, NY on a full academic scholarship and made it her life's mission to repay this kind and generous 'gift'.
Ida worked at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Manhattan. In 1953 she married Bernard "Bill" Pompeo and raised their family in Lyndhurst and Clifton.
A faithful parishioner of Saint Philip the Apostle Parish in Clifton for 52 years, Ida was a member of the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary; the Home and School Association and the Rev. Peter J. Doody 25th Anniversary of Ordination Committee. She recently received the "Over 50 Years of Service and Dedication to the Blessed Mother Award" from the Rosary Society, an honor she truly cherished.
As an avid writer of cards and letters, she corresponded on a regular basis with several generations of family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Pompeo and son, Jeffrey Pompeo, as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; parents, Michele (Michael) and Maria Teresa (Falasca) D'Ambrosio; her brothers, Joseph (Rose), Pasquale, Anthony (Juanda) and Michael (Julie); her sisters-in-law, Rose (Michael), Theresa (Anthony), Ann (Pat / Roy), Marie (Anthony), Frances (Nicholas) and Jean (Sam); and brother-in-law, James (Jeri).
Funeral services are 10:45 am Thursday from Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton and 11:30 am Mass at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton, NJ. We at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula are saddened to hear about the death of one of our alumna. What a nice gesture to have donations sent to us. We will be in touch about that as soon as it is as compiled. We are touched that her education at AMSU was something she was so proud of and appreciative of throughout her life. AMSU is happy to hear that she lived out our motto of SERVIAM by making it life's mission to pass on that kind and generous gift. Visit amsu.org or us at our hill on Bedford Park Boulevard in the Bronx to see how we are still working to educate immigrants and first generation students today.

Jeff & Arlene . . I'm thinking of you at this difficult time and sending my deepest condolences & prayers. I was so saddened to hear about our "Auntie Ida". She was such a very special lady & Aunt, even though she was an in-law to me I never thought of her that way, she was my Aunt. When Tony & I were first married she took me under her wing, apparently she knew how I felt entering into this large & wonderful Italian family. It was such a joy to receive her cards and keep in touch through the years. Rest in peace Auntie Ida. Love, Sheila
