Iris Levinsohn Obituary

Iris Helen Levinsohn

Oradell - Iris Helen Levinsohn, 70, of Oradell NJ, died June 14, 2021, with her family at her bedside. Beloved wife of Craig, and devoted mother to Daniel and Kyle, Iris committed her life to helping others. Iris worked at New York Presbyterian, Columbia Hospital for more than 35 years, first as a staff nurse before transferring to Utilization Review. Her position then evolved to Case Management and she was the Case Manager on several services at Columbia during the past two decades, including Neurology, Cardiology and Oncology. She was particularly knowledgeable in discharge planning. Due to her extensive experience and knowledge, she was an invaluable resource. She was always willing to assist co-workers in furtherance of ensuring patient and family comfort. Her illness forced her to retire in 2019, when she began her valiant battle against brain cancer.

Iris was a member of the Jewish Community Center of Paramus and Beth Israel Synagogue in Oranjestad, Aruba. A frequent theatergoer, Iris was a Lifetime Member of the Bergen County Players in Oradell, performing in many productions over the years. She pursued her passion for dance at Ballet Arts in Emerson, appearing often in the studio's rendition of The Nutcracker.

In addition to her husband and sons, Iris leaves behind two brothers, David (and Lori) Prosnitz and Robert Prosnitz, many adored nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws, and friends far and wide, each with a special place in her heart. Iris was predeceased by her parents, Elaine and Henry Prosnitz, and her "fur child," Bosco, with whom she was inseparable.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the National Brain Tumor Society or the ASPCA.

Services will be 12 noon Wednesday June 16, 2021 at Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway (Route 4 West), Fair Lawn, NJ. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ.

Iris was the most giving person and a wonderful neighbor. Her devotion to her family was unparalleled. She and I had many discussions about gardening and where to plant or not! We both were the biggest pushovers to each of our dogs. Iris will be sorely missed by all.
May she be at peace.

We loved Iris since high school and have so many fond memories of her. I rode the bus home from Columbia Presbyterian with her for years and am grateful for the time spent with her. She was one of a kind-generous, smart, loving and always funny. She had a special bond with my husband, too, and we will miss her tremendously. God Speed Iris.
