John Giorgio Obituary
Demarest - Passed away on October 15,2018 at Englewood Hospital after a series of medical issues. John was born in the Bronx, NY and from the moment he came into this world he touched each and every person who knew him. A decorated Fireman, he joined the New York City Fire Department in 1955 and retired in 1978 as a Battalion Chief. He then joined the United Nations as a Safety Inspector retiring in 1990. John loved to play racquetball, stay active and socialize with his dear family and friends. He loved Florida and the beach and his humor and zest for life will never be forgotten. Beloved husband of the late Ophelia "Tina" Giorgio. Devoted father of Joanne Giorgio-Chapleau. Adored Pappy of Gillian Grace Chapleau. Dear brother of Mario Giorgio. Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation at the Barrett Funeral Home 148 Dean Dr. Tenafly on Sunday, October 21st from 2-4pm & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 22nd at 10AM St Joseph Catholic Church Demarest, NJ. Interment Rockland Cemetery Sparkill, NY. My deepest condolences go out to the family of Mr. John Giorgio. I met John through the sport of racquetball in New Milford NJ in 1996 -97. He was always cheerful and played the game very well. We had a special occasion to be part of a made for cable tv commercial for the club showing us on the racquetball court.. He and Tina were regulars at the club and it was always a great pleasure to see them . Years later I was fortunate to be able to hang out with John down here in Palm Beach County Fl. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
