MERZ
John Joseph, 70, of Ridgewood, entered into eternal rest on August 31, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he moved to Ridgewood in 1970. Prior to his retirement in 2004, Mr. Merz had worked as a cable technician for Verizon for 38 years. He was a parishioner of the Mt. Carmel RC Church in Ridgewood, was an avid fisherman and loved crossword puzzles and playing Uno. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Norma (nee Ermacora), his beloved children Jennifer Wylie (Sean) of Fair Lawn, John Merz (Vicky) of Closter, Stephanie Kacmarcik (Kevin) of Highland Lakes, his four grandsons Kiernan, Egan, Justin, Andrew, as well as his three sisters Margaret, Kathy, Joan, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will take place on Monday, September 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, at the C. C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, 306 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 4th, at 10:45 AM, at the Mount Carmel RC Church in Ridgewood. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, or the American Cancer Society, 20 Mercer St., Hackensack, NJ 07601, would be appreciated.
