John Vasios Obituary
John G., 91, of Elmwood Park, NJ passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Born and raised in Paterson, NJ, he resided in Clifton before moving to Elmwood Park twenty-five years ago. He proudly served with the U. S. Navy during World War II.
In 1949, Mr. Vasios co-founded Hy-way Tire Company in Elmwood Park which he owned and operated until 1979. Later, he served as a consultant with Englewood Tire Distributors.
Beloved husband of Lorraine (Trzaska) Vasios. Predeceased by his first wife Georgia (Diamond) Vasios. Loving and devoted father of Jill and Alexa Vasios. Dear brother of the late James Vasios and wife Helen, sister Katherine Retalis and husband Harry, sister Mary Sexhaur and husband Robert and brother Harry Vasios and his surviving wife Faith.
A funeral service is planned for Monday, February 25, 2013, 10 AM at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, 201-797-3500. Trisagio Sunday at 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148. For additional information, please visit
