Joseph Mackay Obituary

MACKAY Joseph G., 87, of the Holiday City South section of Berkeley Township, died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Van Dyke Hospice at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Garfield, NJ, he lived in Oakland for 26 years before moving to Berkeley Township 23 years ago. He was a decorated veteran of World War II. He landed on Utah Beach during the Normandy Invasion serving in the third army under General Patton. He also served in the first army under General Bradley. He was a self-employed carpenter working for 38 years before his retirement in 1983. He was a past commander (1976-1977) of VFW Post #3336 in Oakland. He was also a member of the Holiday City South Men's Club and a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Berkeley Township. He enjoyed doing art work and playing golf as hobbies. He is predeceased by his son, Christopher John and his sister Irene Hanzer. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (nee Koshlap); his children and their spouses, Glenn and Pam Mackay, Tom s River, Robert and Beverly Mackay, Wyckoff, NJ and Lynn and Robert Brautigan, Hawthorne, NJ; his sisters, Pauline Sundey and Helen Petrovich, both of Garfield; and his grandchildren, Lindsey, Michael, Jennifer, Catherine, Kerri, Amy and Emily. Visitation will be 1-5 PM Sunday at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River, NJ. A blessing will be offered at the funeral home 10 AM Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the NJ Veteran Cemetery, Arneytown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Van Dyke Hospice, 99 Rt. 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
