Manfred Lederer Obituary

LEDERER
Manfred G. "Bud," 87, of Orange Park, Florida formerly of Woodcliff Lake passed away peacefully on February 27, 2017. Born to Sonja and Otto Lederer in Berlin, Germany on December 3, 1929, he fled Germany during the holocaust and came to the United States in 1942 and grew up in New York City and upstate New York. He graduated Syracuse University where he met and married his wife of over 50 years, Rosemary (deceased 2009). He served in the Air Force before settling down in New Jersey where he taught history at Waldwick High School. Bud enjoyed life and was passionate about many things especially baseball, where he established and then managed the semi-pro Emerson-Westwood Merchants of the Metropolitan Baseball League. Bud was an avid hobbiest and World War II enthusiast who enjoyed building radio-controlled model ships. He was well renowned in the field and was featured on the cover of modeling magazines. Upon retirement he took up sailing and loved spending his days on the Hudson River on his sailboats "Rosebud" and "Interlude." A memorial is being planned for June and his ashes will be released at the Haverstraw Marina. Bud is survived by daughter Patti Wojcik and her husband Bobby, daughter Caroline De Dios and her husband Agustin, and son Stephen and his wife Monica. He was the very proud grandfather to Christopher (and his wife Brittany), Brett, Jason, Sophie, Agustin, Alex and Rosemary, and great-grandson Chase.

I was a student in the River Vale NJ school system. Bud taught me history in the 8th grade. He was also my baseball coach on our team. I became the batboy for the EW Merchants baseball team which he ran. One of my fondest memories was taking batting practice off of Tom Aker former big league pitcher while he was a member of the team. Bud took me to a Mets Reds game at Shea once. I share his love for history. Glad to see that he lived a full life.

Sorry to hear about Bud's passing. He was a good friend and will be missed and remembered. We worked together coaching H S Football back in the early 60's and for many years with the Merchants Baseball team which was Buds early passion.
