Maureen Aurigemma Obituary

Maureen E. Aurigemma

Oradell - Maureen Ellen Aurigemma, 78, of Oradell, NJ died peacefully on March 9, 2021. The daughter of Ellen (nee Conaty) and Peter J. Doris, Sr., Maureen was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. After graduating from Saint Aloysius High School in Jersey City, she went on to earn a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Jersey City State College. It is there that she met her husband of over 54 years, Anthony, who predeceased her in 2020. She was a loving mother to Jeffrey (Vonnie), Sean (Laura) and Melissa (DJ Honold). Maureen was a devoted "Nana" to Caroline, Nicholas, Jacob, Elizabeth, Jack, and Joseph and a dear sister to her brother, Peter J. Doris, Jr. Maureen worked for over 30 years in the Jersey City Public School system as a teacher in PS #8, earning the honor of Teacher of the Year during one of her years of service. Teaching alongside lifelong friends (some as far back as college) was something that she cherished deeply. For many years Maureen worked nights and Saturdays at A&S department store in Paramus Park. She had many different responsibilities through those years and always enjoyed the company of her friends who worked beside her. After retiring, Maureen became an avid walker and she spent her time learning to play bridge and to knit. Her exceptional creativity was captured best when around her grandchildren. Maureen loved taking trips with her husband to quaint antique shops in Nyack, NY and beyond. A small family service was held in her honor. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation - alzinfo.org. Please visit her tribute page at volkleber.com
