Mitchel Altis Obituary

ALTIS Mitchel Calvin Sr., age 88 years, of Elmwood Park since 1941, on Saturday February 16, 2008. Beloved husband of Theresa Young Altis since 1944. Loving father of Mitchel Altis Jr. and Martin Altis, his wife Ellen. Dear grandfather of Stephanie Altis Gurnani, her husband Vincent, Sean Altis and Samantha Altis. Brother of Mildred Phillips of Lakewood CO and Mary Rose "Posie" Miller of Riverbank, CA, and brother in law of Jan Altis of Branson, MO. Mr. Altis was born May 24, 1919 in Dunn, MO and graduated from the Mountain Grove High School, Missouri. Additionally, he received certification from the American Aeronautical Institute in Kansas, MO. In 1941 he moved to New Jersey as a defense worker for Curtis Wright Aeronautical, Wood Ridge. Additionally, he also worked for Walter Kiddie Co, Belleville and retired from Atlas Capco, Wayne in 1987. Mr. Altis was a trustee for the First Presbyterian Church, Elmwood Park. He was a member of the Masonic Order since 1951, a member of the Scottish Rite and attained the position of 33rd Degree Mason. Mr. Altis was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America in Elmwood Park and Fair Lawn. All funeral services are private at the convenience of the family. (browningforshay.com)
