Philip Engel Obituary
Philip J., 89, of Ridgewood, passed away early on Monday, June 20, 2016. Born in Morristown, he grew up in Mendham and graduated from Morristown High School in 1944. Subsequently he joined the Army serving in the Army of Occupation in Japan and later during the Korean War, both times in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Phil was a graduate of Princeton University where he was a member of the Court Club and the Glee Club. Phil had a long and successful banking career in New York, London, Sydney and Paris, retiring in New York as a Senior Vice President of HSBC. Beloved husband of Doris Zimmermann ("Zim") Engel. Loving father of Elizabeth, John and his wife Susan, Katherine, and Christine Zerkle and her husband Michael. Cherished grandfather of Kristin (Jeremy Mull), Matthew (Shanon), Andrew (Kelly) and Emily Engel, and Anna, Caroline and Tommy Zerkle. Great grandfather of Caroline and Milo Mull and Harrison and Hazel Engel. Loving brother-in-law of Diane Zimmermann. Predeceased by his sister Muriel Engel Rudershausen. Past president of the Ridgewood Hobbyists and former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Phil enjoyed travel, music, tennis and above all his family. Funeral mass will be held on Friday 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Ridgewood. Visiting will be held Thursday 4-8 PM at Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave, Ridgewood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to The Little Sisters of the Poor, P.O. Box 367 Totowa, New Jersey 07511. feeneyfuneralhome.com

Doris, so sorry to hear the news that Philip had passed on. I remember meeting you at Sunday mass at OLMC Ridgewood, NJ a number of years ago because we all sat in the section in front of St. Jude. Noticed immediately there was something special about the two of you. Doris, Will lift you up in prayer as you grieve the passing on of Philip. May he rest in peace.
