Richard Dench Obituary

DENCH - Richard M., age 78, died Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Dick was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 29, 1925. He was a resident of HoHoKus for the past 75 years. Dick was the owner of Dench's Auto Repair in HoHoKus for the past 54 years. He was a member of the HoHoKus Volunteer Fire Dept., during his tenure with the fire department, Dick served as president, vice president, lieutenant, captain, assistant chief, and chief. He was a founding member of the Northwest Bergen Mutual Aid Association, and served as secretary of that association. He was a member of the N.J. State Exempt Fireman's Association, and V.F.W Post #192 in HoHoKus where he served as post commander. Dick served his country during WW II in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater, and was a member of the Community Church of HoHoKus. Surviving is his wife Jessie (nee Matthews), his children, Deborah Dench of Frederick, MD, Douglas Dench of Midland Park, Susan Milford of Hagerstown, MD, and Thomas and Richard Dench both of HoHoKus, nine grandchildren, and his brother James Dench of Clifton. Visiting will be Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday 2-4 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Avenue Wyckoff. A memorial service will be held Sunday 7 PM at the Community Church of HoHoKus 400 Warren Avenue. Cremation is Private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the HoHoKus Volunteer Fire Dept. 52 Sheridan Avenue, or the HoHoKus Volunteer Ambulance Corps. P.O.Box 81 HoHoKus, NJ 07423.

Diane and I send our deepest sympathies and thoughts to all. Dick was like the father I had lost years ago. He always worried about my welfare. We will miss him.
