Richard Lane Obituary

LANE
Richard Harold "Dick" Sr., 80, of Little Falls, peacefully passed away on August 11, 2015 in the presence of family, in Guthrie Corning Hospital, Corning, NY.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, he resided there before moving to Little Falls in 1945 where he graduated from Little Falls School #1 and Passaic Valley Regional High School. Upon graduation in 1952 he joined the U.S. Naval Reserves and was active until he retired in 1974 as Chief Petty Officer for the Naval Securities Group. He was so proud to be a Navy man. Also in 1952, he began his career with NJ Bell Telephone Company as a splicer's helper. During his 38 years at NJ Bell, he rose from climbing poles to Customer Service Representative and ultimately Marketing Manager from which he retired in 1991. Richard met Myrtle "Skip" Vreeland in 1951 at a friend's party and they were married in 1955. They began their married life in an apartment in Paterson. After his beloved wife was injured in a car accident, they were told they would never have children. Shortly thereafter, Dick and Skip moved to their honeymoon cottage in West Milford, NJ. While in West Milford, Richard served on the Macopin Fire Company and eventually became a Captain. They enjoyed their country life for a short while until their miracle baby, Kathleen arrived in 1957. Followed soon after by Richard Jr. then Kenneth, they sold the cottage and moved to Little Falls where they would welcome Gary and Sharon to complete their "Full House." Throughout his life in Little Falls, Richard was dedicated to community service. He was a Little League Coach; Founder of the Little Falls Chapter of the Jaycees; organized the Little Falls Blood Bank and served as President for 26 years; Trustee of the LF Elementary and Passaic Valley Regional High School Boards of Education where he served many terms as President, Vice President and member of all associated committees. He also served as the President of the LF Historical Society which he and Skip reorganized and expanded from a membership of 5 to over 130, a legacy that made both of them very proud. In retirement, Richard's favorite pastimes were golfing, fishing and spending time with his wife and ever growing family.
Richard was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle "Skip" Lane, parents Theresa and Christopher Lane and sister, Mildred Forster. Richard will be eternally loved and missed by his devoted children Kathy Nardone and her husband Enrico of Lincoln Park, NJ; Rick Lane Jr. of Lincoln Park, NJ; Ken Lane and his wife Angela of Corning, NY, Gary Lane and his wife Debbie of Sparta, NJ; and Sharon Eaves and her husband Scott of Hawthorne, NJ; his cherished grandchildren Elizabeth Barakat and her husband Roger, Olivia and Amanda Nardone; Jake, Shawn and Brittany Lane; Christina Layton and her husband Dustin, Stephanie Lane, Marisa Brooks and her husband Christopher and Kenny Lane; Greg Lane and his wife Katherine, Jessica and Travis Lane, and Scott Eaves Jr., and six great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Funeral Services will be 10 AM Saturday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 211 Main Street, Lincoln Park. (Please meet at Church.) Interment to follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa. Visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Bizub-Parker Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Little Falls.

My deepest sympathies to the Lane family. I only recently learned of his death. Dick and I worked together in NJ Bell marketing. Many, many happy memories of your father. I'll always remember him as a, gentleman, and a "class act", but most of all as a good friend.
