Russell Chieffe Obituary
Russell, from an early age up until his death, devoted his life to putting others before himself. First as a member of ambulance and first aid squads as a teenager, to working in varied emergency rooms as a Registered Nurse, and then as a Physician's Assistant associated with private practices. He was a loving partner and companion, son and brother, uncle and nephew, co-worker and friend who will be dearly missed by all. He provided hope and compassion to all in his care. He acted as a cornerstone in the healing process for the critically ill, giving hope, compassion, strength, and most of all love. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday April 4, 2013 at 8:30 PM at the Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo Valley Road (Rt.202) Oakland, NJ. Dear Russell,
When I was a sixteen year old boy in 1979, you saved my life. I went to the ER at Valley Hospital in the middle of the night. My problems were more teenage angst than anything physical and you took the time to talk to me. I recently decided to reach out to tell you I remember you and that I am grateful. It pains me to know you are gone and that you never knew how much you gave me. I became a nurse because of you, just to be able to give back what you gave me.
I hope that I have somehow given back to the world what you gave me.
To those who were blessed to know him, I join your sorrow on his loss.
I wish I could have told him how deeply he affected me.

I am at a loss for words - Russell you were the best mentor! When I joined the squad I was a timid shy person - you saw my potential and took me out of my shell - you taught me soo much - even though our paths went in separate directions you were never far from my thoughts -

To Ken and Rusell's family and huge group of friends. I just heard the news and I am heartbroken, selfishly, of course, because my time with you is over. The wonderful things are the memories of your compassion, altruism, concern, friendship, professional care and personal outreach. I wish you eternal peace and look forward to the time when you will be reunited with us, one by one, so that we can continue, selfishly, to receive what you have so easily given through all these years. You always made me feel that everything would be all right. I worked with Russell for many years in the 90's and into the 21st century. I am still in practice and patients still ask about him and reminisce about their experiences with him and the wonderful and warm care he provided. I enjoyed my time working with Russell and have missed him since our last days together. Even though I was not in touch with regularity, I will miss him and I am sure he will missed by anyone who knew him and knew him well. I'm sorry for your departure from this existence as we know it and I very much hope that your passing was peaceful and gentle. I am quite sure Russell, that you are in a good place and I hope to see you there sometime. Love,

I only worked with Russell for a little over a year yet through that time came to appreciate his sense of humor, his dedication to helping others, and his generous spirit. Russell, you always greeted us with warmth, a great big smile and open arms. You are a great loving part of our son Ken's life, and added much to our family. Your smile, laughter and loving personality lightened the lives of many. You made a touching, true contribution to humanity and to all those you met. "Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives." Russell will be greatly missed. Thank you all for coming, or calling or sending your condolences and donations in memory of Russell. I SO appreciate everyone's support at this time from the bottom of my broken heart. I know Russell would have wanted me to be surrounded by you guys.
He took such great care of so many people in so many different ways. He had a HUGE heart with GREAT amounts of LOVE inside of it. I never went through one day since I've known Russell where I did not hear him say the words “I Love You” to me and it was always several times a day too! He was so loving, so affectionate, so caring and concerned. He had the ability to have such great empathy for others to the point where he would spring into immediate action to help fix problems, give advice, listen to others problems or just lend a hand. I hope that he will always be remembered by all of us for his brilliant qualities that made him such a special person to a lot of people. I hope we will all remember the joy he brought to our lives and the happy memories we created with him. The memories of him will always shine brightly in my thoughts and his love will always shine as bright as the sun in my heart. Thank you again everyone. I love you guys!
