DECHIARO Sebastian A. (Sibby), age 79, of Little Ferry passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2010, after a valiant battle with stomach cancer. Family members were at his side. Born in Manhattan on January 27, 1931 to the late Vito-Antonio and Maria Dechiaro, Sibby resided in Little Ferry for over 50 years. Sebastian is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Dorothy (Merwede) and step-daughter Janet Engelkes and husband Gil; his devoted brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Virginia Dechiaro; his loving nephews Michael Dechiaro and wife Debra, Jonathan Dechiaro and wife Lauren, and niece Jill Vaccarella and husband Romeo; and his dear grand-nephews Anthony, Nino, Romeo, and Christian, and grand-niece Baby Kaleigh. Sibby also leaves behind sisters-in-law Mary Hacking and Phyllis Merwede. Sibby's love of baseball began on the streets of New York City and never died. He will be remembered as the "best hitter" on his team. Sebastian was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Always an avid bowler and a familiar face in the bowling community, Sibby enjoyed league bowling and had more than one 300 game to his credit. Family members will greatly miss all of the old family memories and traditions that Sibby kept alive through the stories he shared. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered from St. Margaret of Cortona Church, Chamberlain Street, Little Ferry, on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 10 AM. All are invited to please meet at church. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Park Cemetery, Hackensack, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations to the John Theurer Cancer Center at HUMC, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601 would be greatly appreciated.
