Sophie Kurnath Obituary

KURNATH
Sophie Helene, of Warwick, NY, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in Schervier Pavilion, Warwick. She was 97.
The daughter of the late Jacobus and Anna Kowalczyk Wojcik, she was born on March 21, 1916 in Marstellar, PA.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence Kurnath and wife Catherine of Warwick, NY; Grandson, Daniel Kurnath of Warwick and granddaughter, Caitlin Kurnath of Warwick; two sisters, Julie Anszperger of Medfield, MA and Irene Lewandowski of Garfield, NJ. Many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Emil Francis Kurnath.
Sophie grew up in Garfield, NJ, where she attended St. Stanislaus School. In the 1930's and 1940's she played basketball for the school and church girl's teams. Sophie was a great sister to her three brothers and seven sisters. She loved her grandchildren Dan and Caitlin. She was a great mother to her son Larry, and to his wife Cathy. She was a beloved aunt to her many nephews and nieces. She loved her husband Emil and enjoyed playing golf with him during their retirement in Florida, where she recorded a hole-in-one at the Indian Creek Golf Club.
She was a good neighbor, and a good friend to all in Garfield, Clifton, East Paterson and Jupiter, and will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
There will be no visitation.
A funeral mass will be held 1 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Church, Pine Island, NY.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the T.S. Purta Funeral Home.
