Thomas E. Higgins

Keyport - Thomas E. Higgins, 81, of Keyport, New Jersey died on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, NJ. He died from Covid-19 and its effects on several comorbidities including diabetes and hypotension. He also struggled with the lingering effects of a laminectomy performed on his neck after a boating accident in 1998. Tom was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. He graduated from William L. Dickinson High School and attended Seton Hall University. He graduated from Rutgers Business School with a bachelors degree in finance prior to his employment at Leica Microsystems in NYC. He was President and CEO of Wenger North America (Precise International) in Orangeburg, NY from February 1991 through December 1998. He was Director of Product Development at Tourneau in NYC from February 2002 to June 2010. He and his family lived in Demarest from 1979 until 2001. Tom served on the town council in Demarest and also served as police commissioner and as fire commissioner. He is predeceased by his mother Marion Higgins (Owen), father Thomas Higgins, and brother William Higgins. He is survived by his wife Lorraine Higgins (Marschner), son Mark Higgins (Jackie) and daughter Stacy Higgins, granddaughters Kaitlin Higgins and Kelsey Higgins, grand-nephew Brian Ritter and grand-nieces Amy Sasko, Jessica Sasko, Samantha Sasko and Jackie Ferraro (Dana), and by his friend Charles Eppler.

Tom was an avid sailor, world traveler and an accomplished businessman. He will be remembered by many for his kindness and friendship, his sage advice and exemplary leadership.

Joan and I were shocked and deeply saddened to just recently learn of Tom’s passing. It was always uplifting and fascinating to hear the stories of his very interesting life. We both will miss you dear friend. May you Rest In Peace.
