It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Anthony Buckenmeyer announce his passing on April 16, 2025, at the age of 65.
Tony was born on Dec. 15, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio, and grew up in Napoleon, where he graduated high school in 1978. He earned an Associate degree from Hocking Technical College, and then graduated from The University of Toledo in 1982 with a degree in Respiratory Therapy.
He served the community at various hospitals and retired in 2020, after 33 years at Flower Hospital.
He fought a hard, courageous battle against a very rare, aggressive lung cancer. Never losing his faith in God, that regardless of the outcome, he would be by his side always, comforting him, and ultimately guiding him home to glory.
At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Toledo, Ohio.
Charles, better known as Tony, will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Dianna; daughter, Kali (Jacob) Oberle; stepchildren, Rebecca (Mathew) Ingram, David (Chayris) Steele and Jared Steele; grandchildren, Madilyn, Jaxson, Vivian, Josephine, Timothy, Susanna, Catherine, Elizabeth and Adam; brother, Jim (Patricia) Buckenmeyer; sister, Sandy (Joseph) Bowditch; sisters-in-law, Barbara Farnell and Pamela (Rick) Stewart; mother-in-law, Mary Segur; and many, many extended family members and lifelong friends.
Tony was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Olga, and his sister, Cindy.
Tony adored his grandchildren and loved nothing more than spending time with them.
Tony had a love of travel and adventure. Being outdoors and staying active shaped his daily life. He was passionate about music and enjoyed concerts from every genre.
Ohio State Buckeyes were his #1 team, and he was always ready for a long conversation about them. He had a natural devotion to the Earth and taking care of it. Whether it was gardening, flower beds, or lovingly caring for the many animals he owned in his life, he took great pride in watching things grow and flourish.
Tony was someone who left an impression of kindness and compassion on those who knew him. He will be remembered for his great storytelling and ability to make others laugh. He always made himself present to those he loved, as he held strong family values and cherished the friendships created in his life.
His journey on this Earth was one marked by love, compassion, and his unwavering faith in God. He returned to his Catholic Faith and struck up an amazing friendship with Fr. Dave Nuss.
Tony repeatedly told those he loved to "Find your path back to your faith." We ask for his life to be remembered, not for how it ended, but for how it was lived, and for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
May his memory be a blessing as we continue to carry on his love, and joy for life.
Per Tony's wishes, services will be private.

My dad James Drew Buckenmeyer was his nephew and they had a good relationship with eachother they loved eachother and it is with great sadness my father did not get to go to any funeral weather it was for other family reasons maybe someone thought some way about his specific family or not. But it doesn´t matter, what mattered is that they had a good relationship and loved eachother even if other family members didn´t know. My father said he was a great person and that when he reunited with him a couple of months ago from now that their relationship was like it was when my dad was a kid.
