Earl Lewis "Tuff" Spiess
Earl Lewis "Tuff" Spiess, 91, of Liberty Center, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Liberty Center, on June 15, 1934, Earl was the youngest son of Homer and Myrtle (Braucher) Spiess.
A self-made man of many talents, Tuff lived his life with hard work and quick-witted humor. He had a lifelong love for animals and the simple joys of rural life. His favorite pastimes included livestock trading, attending swap meets, and spending time with his many friends and family. A lifelong resident of Liberty Center, Tuff especially enjoyed sharing coffee and conversation with his friends every morning. He was also a proud supporter of LC Football and never missed a chance to cheer on the Tigers.
Earl and Marilyn (Head) Spiess were married on June 11, 1960, and spent the next 65 years side by side, creating a life filled with love, laughter, and family. Earl attended Liberty Chapel Global Methodist Church.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilyn, and their children, Ginger (Robert) Cobb, Rex (Barbara) Spiess. Charlie Brownfield, Diane (Kenny) Spiess, Cathy Belden and Crystal (Freeman) Kirkland. He is also remembered by his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Bettie (Ervin) Myers, Burdette "Red" (Ellie) Spiess, Earlene "Monie" (Clarence) Sager, Royce "Spud" (Carolyn) Spiess, and infant brother, Carlton Spiess.
Friends and family will be received at the Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, from 2-6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Liberty Chapel Global Methodist Church on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior to services. Interment will take place immediately following services at Young Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Center Athletic Boosters or Liberty Chapel Global Methodist Church. Online condolences and messages may be shared with the family at rodenbergergray.com.
