James J. Johnston, 86, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away at Toledo Hospital on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Feb. 10, 1938, to the late Henry and Pearle (Brakeman) Johnston. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was employed by Gilson Screen for almost 40 years, retiring in 2005. Jim was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Napoleon, where he was an elder, deacon and trustee. He was very active in the church, singing in the choir for over 50 years and after retirement became the handyman around the church due to his talents of being able to fix anything.
Jim ran the Omega time keeping system for his children's swim meets and kept it functional throughout their swim careers, earning him the nickname "Omega Man." He was also recognized for the Recreation Service Award by the Napoleon City Recreation Department in 1987.
In his free time, Jim enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and traveling. He and Nancy traveled all over the States, spent summers in Myrtle Beach for 29 years, visited Hawaii, and enjoyed going on cruises.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; children, Wendy (Jeff) Greutman and Timothy (Karen) Johnston; grandchildren, Zachary (Ruthi) Greutman; brother-in-law, Clayton Cody; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert (Eleanor) Johnston, Patricia (Robert) Cline, Lewis (Marjory) Johnston and Marianne Cody.
