Christopher Piela Obituary
MANSFIELD - Christopher Lee Piela 34, of Mansfield CT went to be with his Lord after a long battle with addiction on February 28, 2018. He was born in Landstuhl, Germany on May 31, 1983 to Joseph and Anke (Knapp) Piela. Chris graduated from Griswold High School Class of 2002. And was then employed by General Dynamics as a welder for 11 years. Chris had a love for the outdoors and spent much of his time hiking, or splitting wood. His true passion was making people laugh and being the true prankster he was.His two daughters, Cadence and Emma were the light of his life. Chris was predeceased by his sister, Rayleene Seyb in March 2017. He is survived by his two daughters Cadence and Emma of Waterford; his father Joseph W. Piela and wife Mary Jo of Mansfield; his mother Anke Piela and husband Jose of New Britain; his sister Megan Piela and husband Andrew of Uncasville; and niece Madeline Seyb of Minot, Maine. A special thanks to the staff and friends at HMM who provided Chris with the love and support he needed and truly deserved, and allowed him to be his true self. Visitation will be from 1-2:30 pm on Saturday, with a service at 2:30 at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funerasl Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. My love to the family of Chris... I had no idea of his passing until today, I asked a mutual friend about how he was doing and if he was still in Griswold, she told me of his passing and I had to take a moment to absorb that one, however I'm happy he's at peace now, he was truly his worst critic and wanted desperately to leave that life behind, for his daughters, his family... And himself. He was a great guy with a kind heart and yes a wonderful sense of humour. Rest easy friend, you will be missed and there's no shame in having had your struggle if anything it's a realization that substance abuse does not discriminate and took a good one too soon. Our deepest condolances go out to all the Piela family, to Mom and Dad, to Megan and Andy, and to Emma and Katie. Wayne and I are so very sorry for your loss and that you have to grieve once more, this time for Chris, when you haven't recovered from the loss of Raylene. We'll never forget his infectious smile and the fun he brought with him. Our hope is that he has found a lasting peace and that he will share a special place in heaven with his beloved sister, Raylene. Two beautiful people that left us way too soon. May their continued fun loving souls reach us here on earth and help to heal those that loved them so deeply. Your spririt lives on in our hearts.
