Edward Butova Obituary

Edward "Murph" Butova 1928 - 2012 Chicopee, MA - Edward "Murph" Butova, age 83, passed away on January 20, 2012 at Wingate of East Longmeadow, MA. He was born on November 20, 1928 in Norwich. His parents were the late John and Rose (Maciejny) Butova. He was a Korean War Air Force Veteran. He was on the Connecticut State High School Football Championship Team in 1945 and was an All State Fullback. He went on to AIC to be a Varsity Club Member and Captain of the AIC football team. Murph went on to graduate from AIC with a Masters Degree. He worked as a history teacher for Chicopee Comprehensive High School for many years before he retired in 1983. He had also served as an alderman for the City of Chicopee as well as a past President of the Chicopee Education Association. He was a former member of the Elks and the American Legion in Willimansett. He is predeceased by his wife Ann Marie (Boldrighini) Butova who passed away in 2009. He leaves his loving children, twins John Butova and his wife Karen of Agawam, MA and Donna DelMonte and her husband Vincent of Savannah, GA; his son David Butova and his wife Mary of Hampden, MA; his dear sister-in-law, Topsy Butova of Uncasville and seven grandchildren, John-Jeremy, Cameron, Corinne, Shelby, Jason, Tina and Sonny as well as his loving companion, his dog, Buddy. He is predeceased by all his siblings, Joe, John, Stanley "Shadow", Fran, Mickey, Henry "Honey" and Peter Butova and Anna Lemieux. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 4-7 P.M. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church (104 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA) at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center Foundation, 627 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.

Been ages since we saw one another but I wanted you to know how sorry I am to hear of your Dad's passing. Anna always talked about him more like a son than a brother. He will be missed but will watch over all of you.

Sorry to hear of Mr. Butova's passing. He was my History teacher at Chicopee Comp back in 1963/64. Fond memories and one of the better teachers I remember.

David, Donna & John.. Haven't found the words to express my sadness for you and his beloved grandchildren. Came to the conclusion I never will. You most certainly know that he will be missed, that he was loved and respected, that many of us will carry our many memories and smile as we do so. But, my wish for you is that you find some peace knowing how much he loved you and how he knew above all his stellar accomplishments, it was his family who made him so fulfilled and proud! Take solace in knowing that only you could have given him that, sometimes in the grandest way and sometimes just quietly. You most certainly achieved that and more. This was the ultimate gift you all gave both your parents! Take care, and God Bless you all. Remember to smile and laugh often, that would have been his wish for you.

Murph was one of the finest football players in the long history of that sport at NFA...his accomplishments later in life added to an outstanding resume...his East Side neighborhood was a source for many top NFA sports figures...

So sorry for your loss..
Your dad was such a fun guy to have for a teacher!
Even better, the memories we all shared of Longwood Drive will live on for me. The swimming pools, hide and seek in groups! Your dad let us climb the trees in back of your house and mine yelled at us and cut them down! Then he bought the wood and nails to build a fort so we could burn THAT down?!? Remember that, Dave? Wouldn't trade the memories for anything... love you guys...so sorry..

Murph: Played with him at AIC, while his brother Honey Butoiva was coach. Sorry to see him pass away, reminds me on the good days at AIC, and the help his brother gave to every player.
