Irene Cowell Obituary

Irene V. Cowell 1938 - 2021
Norwich - Irene Cowell of Norwich, passed away at home on July 23, 2021, with her family by her side.
Irene was the daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline Roy of Occum, CT. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Roy and sister, Agnes Previtera. She is survived by her husband James M. Cowell III, her daughter, Cindy Marien Chester, her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Janet Marien, her grandchildren Jennifer Bordenca, Kacie Chester, and Nicholas Marien; her great-grandson Jameson Chester-Ertsgard, one sister, Evelyn Jarvis, many sisters- and brothers-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.
Irene was born March 21, 1938, and raised in Occum, CT. Upon graduating from NFA in 1956, she held a variety of jobs. Most importantly, she was the manager of the Norwich Ten Pin for many years where she most enjoyed overseeing youth bowling leagues.
Her children bowled in her leagues; however, it was her grandson Nick's bowling achievements she is most proud of.
Throughout her life, Irene enjoyed traveling with Jim. They often went north to Portland, Maine and south to Myrtle Beach, SC which she enjoyed very much.
Irene will be remembered for her love of life and especially for the Christmas celebrations she hosted for her family and friends.
Special thanks is given to Dr. Pagnozzi and Dr. Needleman for the care they provided to Irene over the years, to the staff at Backus Hospital, and to the compassionate hospice staff who treated her.
At Irene's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
Guillot Funeral Home of Taftville is in charge of arrangements.
