Marion Wilson Obituary

Oakdale - Marion Wilson of Oakdale and Prospect Harbor, ME died peacefully with love, dignity, and respect on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading, MA at 79 years of age after a struggle with lung cancer diagnosed this past spring. Born on March 13, 1931 to Frederick T. and Marguerite Wilson, she resided in Milton, Massachusetts and attended the Tucker Elementary School. After moving to Plymouth Street in Abington, MA, she attended the Abington Public Schools and was a graduate of Abington High School. She continued her education at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, MA achieving an Undergraduate Degree in Physical Education. Later she obtained her Master’s Degree in counseling from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Marion was a member of the original staff at Kelly Junior High School in Norwich where she was employed as a Guidance Counselor from 1962-1989. Marion lived her life fully, on her own terms. She was an influential mentor in the lives of many students during the course of her career and especially to her nieces and their children; teaching them to follow their dreams and encouraging them in all their endeavors. She penned, “Who knows where you may end up, umpteen years from now? Just remember what’s important is, not where you get, but how. She was a good friend to many, opening her doors to them at her beloved home in Maine or enjoying their travels together. She loved Maine, though she had strong roots in Connecticut. Marion was a charter member of the Northeast Network of RVing Women. She served as Secretary and more recently she was Chairman of the Membership Committee. Marion was regarded by her friends as the unofficial poet laureate and storyteller. She enjoyed sitting around the fire sharing stories highlighting the uniqueness of the Maine lifestyle. She had wanderlust, heading south to Jekyll Island, GA and Fort Myers, FL in her RV for the winter with Cady, her faithful canine. Her family and friends will have fond memories of Marion’s keen sense of observation, quick wit, and her gift of “the word as well as “the pen. We will remember her many “splendid quips, the fun shared in good times and her steady guidance when times were challenging. Marion loved well and was loved by many. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Frederick T. and Marguerite Wilson of Abington, MA, Audrey Lanctot of Oakdale, CT, her devoted partner of 37 years, and her brother, Frederick T. Wilson Jr. of Abington, MA. She is survived by her two nieces and their husbands, Karen and William Twomey of Reading, MA, Audrey and Rene Godiers of Atlanta, GA, her sister-in-law Shirley M. Wilson of Abington, MA and three grand-nieces: Carolyn Twomey, Marie and Elena Godiers; and a grand-nephew, Sean Twomey. Marion also leaves Cady, her beloved Weimaraner. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 9a.m. in St. Bridget’s Church, 455 Plymouth St., Abington, MA 02351. Arrangements by the Quealy & Son Funeral Home.
