Michael Brandon Obituary

Michael T. Brandon 1988 - 2016 NORWICH - It is with the deepest sadness that the family of Michael Tyler Brandon share the passing of our beloved son, brother, and nephew. Mike was a gift from God to all of us. He was a strong, intelligent, athletic, creative and kind person. He excelled at almost anything he set his mind on. He was fun and playful and adored his animal friends as they loved him. He owned the dance floor with charismatic grace and loved a beautiful woman. Mike began working out at the gym with his family at the age of 12 and continued this healthy lifestyle passionately throughout his short life. When it came to the epidemic of drug addiction however, Mike could not maintain the arsenal of weapons to combat the slimy grip of mind altering drugs that are stealing the lives of our healthy young population. As we are all aware, this disease that encumbers our culture, this is one where the statistics are more disgusting every day. Mike tried his best to take the steps to change the course of his life but ultimately the enemy schemes and out smarts even the most creative and savvy individuals; as it did to our Mike. Heroin defiles the brain and the person suffers with more and more inability to make sound decisions and follow directions to save himself. Mike is survived by his mother; Kathy Brandon of Norwich, CT, his father; Jon Brandon of Mansfield, CT, one brother; Conal Brandon, sister; Taylor Brandon and his niece, Calli Brandon. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please help Mike's family help others by donating to: Community Speaks Out Inc., 95 Corey Rd., Groton, CT 06340. Kathy & Family,
Although I never met Michael, I feel as though I did know him somewhat through some of our conversations about your family In our time together preparing and working in the art room together at JJIS. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time. I lost my nephew a few years back to drug a addiction overdose. He left behind two beautiful daughters we have the pleasure of seeing them grow and thrive. I hope you are able to hold close the wonderful memories you have of him and cherish them as they will always be with you.

To the loving family of Michael Brandon, I don't know you personally, however, I knew of your son. You see, a few years past, my dear son suffered from the same horrible demon, heroin, as your son. My son, and our entire family, is one of the more fortunate families because our dear son, after many, many situations in rehabilitation both in and out of state was able to finally work through his disease through the grace of God. Every day still remains a battle for him, we, as his loving family realize that. Above in my message, I wrote that I knew of your son because my son and Michael were friends in addiction, I recognize the name. Over the recent years, my heart has continually bled for so many families of area men and women whose names I also recognize from the obituaries. All these suffering, passed individuals, at one time or another, crossed paths. The "living friends" are some of the fortunate ones to be alive, how, I don't know. In closing, you are a brave family to be so truthful about your son's disease, and I thank you as so many others have before me. Perhaps the non-touched public will better comprehend the heart-wrenching pain involved when they hear, and read about these addicted individuals and suffering loved ones. Suffering love ones, I repeat, because no beloved addict suffers alone. The entire family is in this horrendous, painful war together. God bless your beloved Michael, and your entire family.

Kathy and family I do not know who you are but I feel blessed to see that you can actually share this online, therefore I will also. I lost my brother to this demon 15 years ago. He was 52. And I almost lost my daughter last week. Bt she appears to be back on track.

Her husband though started with this about a year ago, and has been on and off, but more on than off. I have had such hateful feelings for him in the last year and I thank you for opening my eyes. Now I can understand that it isn't a choice to stay away from it once you've been demonized by it.

I will say a prayer for you and your family today and will be more understanding and loving toward my son-in-law.

May you always be blessed! Mary (Canton)

February 27, 2016

My condolences to the family of this young man. As they're very heartfelt. Addiction is not something our children choose, it is an illness. This is one of the harder ones to beat. Some do and some just can't. We are losing way to many of our younger generation lately due to all the bad stuff that they're putting out there in the streets. Heavenly Father now you can take this child and keep him safe. No one else can hurt him again. May he rest in peace. Very sorry for your loss.

My husband and I were so touched by your tribute to your son. Our hearts go out to you as we lost our beautiful 29 year old son to a heroin overdose in 2008. Your description of Mike reminded us so much of our son. We commend you for your bravery and forthrightness. It is such bravery that will remove the stigma from this terrible disease and help us find solutions.

February 26, 2016

I will be praying for you and your family. My son has been clean for 6 months. All you can do is pray for them and pray no more of our children with let heroin control them. May you some how find peace and love from God, family and friends.
May God bless you.

Although I don't know you personally, I have been in your shoes. My daughter was addicted to heroin. She has been clean for 5 years. I know that I am very lucky and things could have turned out very differently. My heart is so heavy for your loss. Thank you so very much for letting everyone know that your son's devil was heroin. You were so very brave to let everyone know this. I know this will help someone. I can tell that your son was a wonderful person taken away way too soon. My thanks, love and prayers go to all of your family during this time of unbelievable loss.

so sorry for your loss, I just lost my son feb 20 to the horrible disease of drug addiction, I feel your pain. We are heart broken along with you and your family.

February 26, 2016

Michael's story hits home with my family too. I too could have been all of you. My beautiful son today is in remission. He is fighting every day the combat of that slimy grip of mind altering drug " heroin". I pray each day to god to help him fight and beat this horrible disease. My heart breaks for all of you. I hope this loss of your child won't be in vain. I hope the sharing of his addiction and his life battles will remind us to help those in pain. Don't run from them, be there and help them fight, even if it means calling their parents or authorities. Don't wait to do something, be there for them now, not when they die, it's to late then. Michael I know you are now at peace and a beautiful shining star up in heaven. God bless all those who love you. anonymous

February 26, 2016

Although I did not know Michael, I wanted to send my condolences to his family. Reading his obituary was difficult, but I have so much respect for how honest it was. Drugs are taking the lives of so many and although I have not dealt personally with someone close to me passing, I have dealt with a sibling having an addiction problem and hope every single day that he makes the right decisions. I truly commend you for speaking so truthfully and hope that someday soon you can find peace in this tragic situation.

My deepest sympathies to all of you. After reading the obituary of your loved one, I needed to tell you how beautiful it was. While I never knew Michael, I felt your pain in losing him. The difficulty with all drugs has robbed our world of so many wonderful people. You wrote so beautifully about this. I could have been all of you because my son was addicted to heroin also. By the grace of God, he was able to turn his life around. However every time I read a young death due to drugs, I am thankful for all the days since with my son. My one wish for the world would be to rid it of all these mind altering drugs. Thank you for reaching out to the public with your inspiring words. My prayers are with you. I will call my son today to tell him I love him. Thank you for sharing Michael's story with us who never knew him.

I do not know Michael or his family. A friend posted this obituary on Facebook. I applaud the courage of the family to so eloquently describe why Michael passed.

I am an alcoholic who, by the grace of my higher power, will be sober 12 years a week from Saturday.

I worked in a drug detox center and took care of many people, including my own relative, who were addicted to drugs. Drug addiction is a disease. An insidious, scary, and devastating disease on the addict and their family.

The more people who can be so brave and not feel ashamed (because there should be no shame) to speak out and educate the world, maybe this disease can begin to go away.

Michael is at peace and my prayers, admiration, and deepest sympathies go to his family as they try to heal.

Brando was my hero. I suffered from the same addiction back in 2010 and I had stopped breathing and turned blue in the face. No one else at the party knew what to do, except Brando. He pulled me off the bed and threw me on the floor and gave me CPR until the EMTs arrived. Michael Brandon saved my life. I thanked him pretty much every single time I saw him after that day because he deserved it. The doctors told me in the hospital that if it were not for him, I would not be here today. It breaks my heart to know that my hero is gone. You were an amazing person with the ability to make anyone smile. My heart goes out to the Brandon family, I can promise you that he will live forever in my heart. I love you forever Brando, you and the pink elephant tatted on your arm. rest easy love, watch over us all.

Dearest Kathy and Family.....To read the eloquent words written about your son is to know beyond a shadow of a doubt what a wonderfully kind, loved and vibrant person he was. This insidious epidemic of addiction is not choosey...it knows no boundaries. It has no regard nor respect for life and cares not the pain it wreaks for those addicted and just as importantly, loved ones who witness their struggle. I applaud your courage in sharing the battle of this dark and sinister disease, which is indeed an epidemic and will remain so until we share our struggles and vow to defeat its angry mission. Thank you for sharing the wonderful man he was and will continue to be for those of us who never had the pleasure of meeting him and for all who knew and loved him. His addiction by no means defined the man....his love for you, life and those he cherished is his true legacy. Sending love and prayers ....Debbie Mientus

Kathy, Jon, Conal, Taylor and Calli! As we just receive this news, We are so sadden by the tragedy here with Michael. The obituary could not speak any louder to what is overcoming our strong, vibrant youth culture in this world. Thank you for "SPEAKING OUT" at such a tough time in your lives. The loss of a child is never easy, know that God has ahold of him now and he will do great things from above! The McFarlane Family
