Rita Keith Obituary

Rita C. (Bernier) Keith Jan. 13, 1923 - Feb. 12, 2014 Plainfield - Rita C. (Bernier) Keith was called by her Lord on February 12 surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness. Rita was born January 13, 1923 to Philias and Marie-Anne (Gervais) in Granby, Quebec, and moved to Plainfield as a child. She married James Keith, Sr. on November 21, 1941, and shortly thereafter the couple took up residence in the Cone Hill section of Moosup, where Rita lived until her death. A seamstress at Royal Robes and Wauregan Mills, Rita was expert at anything involving needles and thread. She knitted and crocheted avidly, designed and sewed all types of garments, and hand-braided rugs; donating countless items to benefit the churches of All Hallows and St. John's. Rita was a communicant of All Hallows church in Moosup for nearly 70 years, bringing her boundless energy and enthusiasm to the Ladies of St. Anne and the Daughters of Isabella. Intrepid, independent, and self-sufficient to the end, Rita maintained a large flower garden and delighted in her fish pond. Predeceased by her husband, two sisters and a brother, Rita's ready laugh and kind, loving manner will be sorely missed by her sister Ada Iwanicki, of Lisbon, her three sons Brian (Penelope), Richard, and James Keith, Jr., her daughter Carolyn (Jerry) Nadeau, her grandchildren Christine Gagnon, Jeffrey and Mason Keith, Brandon, Jordan, and Colin Nadeau, her six great-grandchildren Nicole, Zachary, Stephanie, Josephina, Katie, and Kelsey, and one great-great grandchild. A Memorial Mass will be held at All Hallows Church at 11 A.M. February 22. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Haitian Health Foundation, 97 Sherman St. Norwich, CT. 06360.www.haitianhealthfoundation.org. www.dougherty brosfuneralhome.com

Jim, Dick, Brian and Carolyn,
I'm so sorry to hear of your moms' passing. I grew up across the street from you. Brian and Carolyn may not remember me as I married in 1955 and left Cone Hill. Your mom was a great neighbor and a great help to me as I learned to knit when I was about 13. She will be missed greatly as I miss my mom who has been gone almost 8 years already. Please know I am thinking of you.
Sincerely, Muriel Gercic Evans

Brian, Richard, James and Carolyn
My heart is heavy hearing the news of your mom. I had the great fortune to see and talk with her when I came home for my brother Leo's service. Having not seen her after all these years, she immediately recognized me. She was a wonderful woman who always treated us with such warm affection. I will never forget her kind, heart felt generosity when we came over to visit. Another angel's light has been added to the nighttime sky.
Sending healing thoughts to you and all your families.
Koreen
