Rosemarie H. McDowell Jan. 24, 1932 - May 4, 2014 OAKDALE - Rosemarie H. McDowell, age 82 of Oakdale passed away peacefully on May 4th while visiting family in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born January 24, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to the late John & Olga Gaebler. She was the wife of the late William J. McDowell Jr., who passed on Nov. 11, 2005. Her son Scott also predeceased her. She worked for many years at the Card & Party Shop and then at 5th Avenue Card & Party in New London. After retiring, she was a long time member of the auxiliary of Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where she had volunteered for over 2000 hours, primarily on the maternity floor. She was very proud of the plaque at L&M Hospital that recognizes this accomplishment. Rosemarie leaves behind a daughter Karen Long and her husband Steven of North Stonington; her son Christopher McDowell and his wife Roberta of Arizona; granddaughters Christel Watson and Whitney McDowell of Minnesota. She also leaves a sister Marilyn Lusk of Arizona. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday, May 10th at St. John's Church, Maple Avenue, Uncasville. Burial is private and there are no calling hours. Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington Street, New London is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Lawrence & Memorial Development Fund, 365 Montauk Avenue, New London, CT 06320 or the American Heart Association.

Chris, Roberta, and Family,
My sincerest sympathy to all. Your mom was volunteering at L&M when I had my first son 20 years ago and she was there for my next three. She always asked about them whenever I saw her at church. Very kind and caring. A wonderful lady.
With Sympathy,
Joan Austin Malchiodi
