Sophie Ann Marian Kostal

Sophie Ann Marian Kostal March 11, 1923 - June 23, 2009 LEBANON - Sophie (Maslo) Kostal, 86, of Lebanon, entered eternal peace Tuesday (June 23, 2009) with her daughter, Regina, and son, John, at her side in her home in Lebanon. Born in Jersey City, NJ on March 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Anna (Widejko) Maslo. The first female graduate of St. Peter's College in Jersey City, Sophie worked for many years as a personnel officer for the U.S. Navy where she met her eventual husband, the late George J. Kostal of Milwaukee, WI to whom she was eternally devoted. She was a charter member of the Interfaith Sewing Group, and held a variety of offices with the St. Joseph Women's Club, the Guilford Smith Memorial Library, the Willimantic Women's Club, and the South Windham Fire Department Auxiliary. Sophie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Steven “Jay� Puleo of Lebanon; by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy (McCallum) Kostal of Avon, CT; and by her five loving grandchildren: Russell George Puleo, Anna Jeanette Puleo, George Lachlan Kostal, John Alexander “Jack� Kostal Jr., and William James Kostal. Sophie was the loving sister to her brother, William Maslo, of Carteret, NJ. She was predeceased by three sisters: Helen Van Glahn, Stella Breslin, and Mary Grzybowski and three brothers: Joseph, Stanley, and Alexander. She also leaves seventeen nieces and nephews. Sophie's family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, June 25, from 6-8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic with assembly at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Living Center, 14 Club Rd, Windham or the Holy Family Home and Shelter, 88 Jackson St, Willimantic.
