Pastor William Stephen Percy Sr.

William Percy Obituary

Pastor William Stephen Percy, Sr. July 4, 1947 - August 9, 2011 Wauregan - Pastor William Stephen Percy, Sr., passed away unexpectedly at his home in Wauregan, CT on August 9, 2011. He was born on July 4, 1947, in Foster, RI and was raised in Westerly, RI by his parents Stephen and Violet Percy. He entered the U.S. Air Force in November 1966, and was honorably discharged in December 1968. On March 8, 1969, he was married to Marilyn Elizabeth Slowick at Grace Methodist Church in Westerly. While William's work was in the accounting field, his heart's desire was to do financial counseling as a ministry. He became an ordained minister in April 2002, and spent the remainder of his life involved in the lives of the many people who passed through Maranatha Retreat Center in Wauregan. He pastored a church at the retreat center until illness prevented, but helped establish the Biker's Church, a part of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. In addition to his wife of 42 years, he leaves six children and their families: Daughter Tahnya Abraham and husband Abraham John of Highlands Ranch, CO, daughter Victoria Spink and fiance Roger Davis of Eastford, CT, daughter Tiffany Cantrell and husband David of Chatsworth, GA, son Bryan and wife Sandra of Putnam, daughter Brigitte Percy and boyfriend Ron Lewis of Wauregan, and son William Jr., and wife Kelly of Wauregan. In addition he leaves 15 grandchildren, with one on the way. Although physically handicapped, Pastor Bill took great pleasure in helping improve the lives of others and in considering their needs before his own. His many spiritual gifts will be missed by those around him. He delighted in his children and grandchildren and in sharing the gospel message. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 2 P.M. at 376 Putnam Rd., Wauregan. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made in his memory to the church or charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Labenski Funeral Home.

"Put yourself now in a right relation with Him and be at peace." ~Job 22:21

Despite Pastor Bill's difficult physical circumstances, he had peace with God, and always encouraged others to have peace with Him through Jesus Christ. His life was a testimony as he shared the gospel with so many that he met, and worked with others through their own difficult circumstances. Pastor Bill is now face to face with Jesus, his faith has become sight! No more pain, no more disability, no more health problems, praise the Lord!

Yet at the same time we will miss him as he has departed this earth and left a void in the lives of those who loved him so much. Marilyn, you have been such a faithful partner. May the Lord God Himself comfort you in your time of need. May God comfort Pastor Bill's children and grandchildren, as well as all of those who depend on him for comfort, strength, and counsel.

We praise God for the life of Pastor Bill, and are thankful for the legacy he has left on this earth.
