William Sabourin Obituary

William F. Sabourin Sr. 1933 - 2021
Dayville - William F. Sabourin Sr., 87, of Danielson, beloved husband of Gloria Dixon Sabourin, died Thursday May 13, 2021 at Westview Nursing Home. He was born July 9, 1933 in Dayville, son of the late Wilfred and Ella Sabourin. He was a devoted husband, brother, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his wife and family above all else. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, reading, doing cross word puzzles, camping, singing and listening to country music, traveling and watching the UCONN Women's basketball team and the Boston Red Sox. Bill was known for his humor and often times told jokes to the doctors and nurses that were caring for him. Bill enjoyed a 30 plus year retirement. He and Gloria were part of an RV camping club. They went on many wonderful trips together. Some of the more memorable trips were to Branson City, Missouri; the Grand Canyon; Jackson Hole, Wyoming and exploring California. Together they saw most of the famous landmarks in the United States. They also made some lifelong friends through the RV club. When the RV got too big for Bill to drive, he and Gloria joined the Plainfield Senior Center. There they were able to go on many more enjoyable trips including to Maryland to see the Red Sox play the Orioles and to Macinaw Island, Michigan.
Bill had several different careers including insurance sales and various management positions. He spent the last 13 years of his working life at Electric Boat in Groton where he was a supervisor in the paint department.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria; sons, William and his wife Donna of Brooklyn, Jeffrey and his wife Wendy of Glastonbury; grandchildren, Amanda, Joseph, Hannah, Sarah and Brock; great grandchildren Marie, Chloe and Lilly; brother Theodore and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Bruce M. Sabourin; brothers George, Lucien, Robert, Edward, Norman, Raymond. And sisters Lillian and Dorothy.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Botta and the essential nurses and staff of Westview Nursing Home for their compassionate care over the past year. They truly made a difference in the amount of time his family got to spend with Bill. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. James Church 12 Franklin Street Danielson on Thursday May 20, 2021 at 10:30 am. tillinghastfh.com
