Charles Beshaler Obituary

ARNOLD - Charles "Bud" F. Beshaler, 81, of Arnold died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Bud was born Nov. 14, 1925, to Ferdinand and Dora Seaney Beshaler in Kearney. At the age of 18, he was left to assume responsibilities of the family farm, where he continued this passion until the time of his death.

On Feb. 25, 1952, Bud was united in marriage to Ellen "Sue" Moore Gross. From this union, eight children were born: Richard L. (Kim) Beshaler and John F. (Mary Ellen) Beshaler, all of Arnold, Jeanne E. (Frank) Staroski of Omaha, Joan M. Keyser of Denver, Anne M. (John) Siebel of LaPorte, Colo., Mary S. Yarrington of Merna, Elizabeth L. (Anthony) Romano of Kansas City, Mo., and Michael M. Beshaler.

In 1986, the Beshaler family received the Ak-Sar-Ben's Pioneer Farm award for 100 years of continuation of a family farm and a tradition of farming.

Bud was active in the Arnold Rotary club and was a member of the Arnold school board for 12 years. He also served on the Custer County historical society and volunteered his time as a member of the Custer County zoning commission. Bud excelled in athletics, particularly in baseball, basketball and track. In 1943, on a cinder track, he won the state 440-yard dash. His love of baseball continued with his participation in town team leagues and coaching Little League baseball teams. He was an avid hunter, with other interests that included traveling, flying and being with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; his sister, Patty Parks-Nelson from Arnold; his foster sister, Clarabelle Neal of Denver; his children; 29 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister and brother; his son, Michael; grandsons Jason Keyser and Ryan Beshaler; and an infant great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the Arnold Rialto Theatre, the Arnold Rescue Unit or the Arnold School Foundation.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arnold with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be in the Arnold Cemetery.
