Delores Dailey Obituary

Delores L. Dailey, 98, of North Platte, passed peacefully into paradise, with her family surrounding her, at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln on April 20, 2021. Delores was born on April 3, 1923, in West Frankfort, Illinois, to James and Annabelle (Westell) Simpson. She lived with and was raised by her grandparents, John & Mary Westell, for most of her young life. Delores graduated from West Frankfort High School in 1939. Later that year she moved to North Platte with her mother. Shortly after arriving in North Platte, she met the love of her life and future husband Dean W. Dailey. To this union, they had three children: daughter, Deanna, and sons, Dennis and Danny (Boonie). Shortly after Dean and Delores were married, WWII broke out and Dean, Delores and baby Deanna went from one Army post to another across the U.S. until Dean was deployed overseas in early 1944. Delores returned to North Platte where she volunteered numerous times at the famous North Platte Canteen. Dean returned from the War in the fall of 1945 and they remained in North Platte for the rest of their lives. Deanna, who had been an "only child" since 1941, was joined by baby brothers, Dennis in 1955 and Boonie in 1957, so Delores was a busy lady raising kids. She still started a career at the J.C. Penney Co. where she was employed for over 30 years! Delores was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Auxiliary Branch of the 40 & 8 the 8 & 40. She served as Legion Auxiliary president in 1966 and was recently honored as a 75-year member of that organization. She was also a 70-plus year member of the VFW Auxiliary and a longtime member of the Women of the Moose and the Eagles Auxiliary. Her favorite pastime was ALWAYS bingo! Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, in 1978; grandson, Jimmy Williams; granddaughter, Leslie Dailey; son-in-law, Ronnie Williams; niece, Vagene Bomberger; her parents; and her grandparents. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Deanna Williams, Dennis (Connie) Dailey and Danny "Boonie" (Liz) Dailey, all of North Platte; grandchildren Denise (Jim) Hohnholt, Tom (Julie) Williams, Megan Dailey, Julie (Ben) Daily and Brad Daily; great-grandchildren, Chase Hohnholt, Brogen Hohnholt, Whitney Williams, Ezra Williams, Alexia Morales, Victor (Butchie) Morales and Noah Morales; brother, James Simpson and his mother Brenda; and nephew, Nathen Simpson of High Ridge, Missouri. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte. Her final resting place will be with her husband, Dean, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, near Maxwell. The service will be livestreamed via the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those unable to attend. A luncheon will follow at the North Platte Moose Lodge. Visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, April, 25, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
