Gene Land Obituary

Gene L. Land, 79, passed away on September 10, 2025, in North Platte, Nebraska.

Born on March 6, 1946, Gene proudly served four years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he built a career in autobody repair and drove agricultural trucks in his later years.

Gene was a man of many passions. He found joy in skydiving, fishing, photography, and woodworking-often crafting items that reflected his creativity and skill. In his younger days, he also enjoyed country dancing. Known for his sense of humor and playful teasing, Gene had a generous spirit and was always willing to go the distance-literally-to help someone in need. Fiercely independent and famously stubborn, he embraced life on his own terms.

He is survived by his daughter Jody (Tom) Martin of Strasburg, Colorado; grandchildren Collin and Elizabeth of Strasburg; brother Don (Jeannette) Land of Kansas City; sister Cheryl (Joe) Fisher of North Platte; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Edith (Wolverton) Land of North Platte; siblings Kay (Corky) Smith of Ogallala, Sondra (Ed) Perrault of North Platte, and Dean (Vivienne) Land of Culbertson; and his first wife Janet (Bickett) Land of Westminster, Colorado.

In keeping with Gene's wishes, no formal services were held. A private family dinner was held to honor his memory.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
