Starla Sherman-Jackson Obituary

Starla Sherman-Jackson, 55, of Arnold, passed away on June 2, 2024, at her home. Starla Nadine Sherman Jackson was born on Jan. 24, 1969, in Valentine, to Hugh Loren and Roberta Jean (Lawlis) Sherman. Being the last born from a family of nine, Starla was blessed with creativity and a strong work ethic. She attended college at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas, and studied for a degree as a veterinary technician. However, she married before finishing her degree. Starla was a person with a very generous heart and loved all things and animals, especially horses. Horses were always a part of her life whether she was riding or caring for them. Her consideration for others was evident in her baking and cooking skills and giving away to others. Other interests and hobbies she loved were quilting, crafting and reading books. She always had a large and beautiful garden that she used for giving away produce and canning many jars for later use. Starla had a very creative heart and at one time wrote short articles of interest for the Fence Post magazine. Her love for horses and cattle was evident as she mostly worked for feedlots wherever her home was established. Starla was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Roberta Sherman; husband, Jerry Jackson; son, Taylor Finley; and brothers, Gary, Blaine, Galen and Frank Sherman. Starla is survived by her daughter, Jamie (Will) Huston of Torrington, Wyoming; sons, Brett Menuey of Washington and Rowdy Jackson of Litchfield; grandchildren, Danielle and Montgomery Huston; siblings, Frances Vasa of Arthur, Myra Boje of Hampton, Neva Sherman of Minnesota and Sally Ruelas of Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Helen Sherman of Valentine and Jane Sherman of Valentine; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Online condolences may be shared at govierbrothers.com. Memorial service is at 4 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Pastor Dean Hanson officiating. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Starks a was p art of a very large family group my sister's and I always admired. Not only were there so many, they roped and rode, boarded in town to go to High School, were in 4H, rodeos and well enough to compete at State which kept my aunt and uncle very busy! my sister's and I were happy to get acquainted with the last Sherman born. Starla lived in Alliance for a little while and my daughter babysat Taylor.
