Ann Throckmorton Obituary

Ann Baldwin Dodd Throckmorton passed away peacefully with her family on Saturday, September 13th in Richmond, VA. Born in Markham, VA on January 28th, 1948 to Chester and Katharine Dodd, she lived her life with joy, hope, and an unwavering dedication and love for her family. She was a constant seeker of friendship and community-whether in her hometown of Front Royal, VA or one of the many times she lived in Richmond, VA.

She was blessed with lifelong friendships and was a positive light to all she met. She loved to travel and was always planning the next adventure. She truly enjoyed her trips to Santa Fe, NM which also allowed her to combine travel with her love of art and painting. She loved music with the Rolling Stones being her favorite. She also loved the tranquility of the beach and the beauty of the ocean. She was always happy being there especially Rehoboth Beach, DE and Sunset Beach, NC which held special places in her heart. But most of all, she loved her family, and she was happiest when she could be together with them, whether on holidays, birthdays or just regular visits. These were the times she cherished most and the times her absence will be felt most keenly.

She loved her home state of Virginia and the following words were always prominently displayed wherever she lived:

"To be a Virginian, either by birth, marriage, adoption, or even on one's mother's side is an introduction to any state in the Union, a passport to any foreign country, and a benediction from Almighty God."

Ann is survived by her loving husband, Thomas B. Throckmorton of Richmond, VA; her two children and their families: Julian N. Major IV and his wife Jennifer, of Warrenton, VA, and Thomas R. Major and his wife, Ksenia of Richmond, VA; her extended family of Anne Throckmorton of Richmond, VA, Thomas B. Throckmorton Jr. and his wife, Kelly of Richmond, VA, and Patrick Throckmorton of Richmond, VA; her sister and brother-in-law, Katharine and Ennis Hardin of Southport, NC and her brother and sister-in-law, Rusty and Betty Dodd of Fredericksburg, VA. She is also survived by her five grandchildren who were the light of her life and to whom she gave so much love and attention: Macy and Julian Major V; Jackson and Elle Major and Helen Throckmorton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Food Pantry at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Richmond, VA. Checks can be made payable to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Food Pantry and sent to 3602 Hawthorne Ave, Richmond, VA 23222.
