Betty Irvin Obituary
Betty Jo Irvin, 82, of Edinburg, VA, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Memory Lane Assisted Living in Woodstock, VA. Family night to be held Sunday, August 31, 2025, 6pm to 8pm at Valley Funeral Service, 14116 South Middle Road, Edinburg, VA 22824.
Betty was born February 12, 1943, in Vienna, Virginia, daughter of the late Joseph Alfred Woody and Bertha Mae Woody. She was a member of St. John's Methodist Church, in Edinburg, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh James Irvin, Sr., whom she married on October 27, 1962; sisters, Edna Proctor, Donna Granger and Jackie Brooks.
Betty is survived by her sons, Jim Irvin (Sarona), Brian Irvin (Rosa) and daughter Mendy Irvin-Grove (Jeff). Six grandchildren, Nathan Irvin (Brittney), Natalie Rudy (Evan), Emily Downey (Will), Nakayla Irvin, Rachel Irvin and Madison Grove; sisters, Joyce Makely and Terry Makely; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special caregiver, Cheri Tisinger and special friends, Carl and Shirley Bright and their entire family.
Betty was a beloved, special person whether she was helping someone find that special book in the library at Edinburg Middle School/Peter Muhlenberg Middle School, or making sure you had that fresh cup of coffee or that hopefully winning lottery ticket at 7-11 in Mt. Jackson, or telling you to stop running or making you that special pizza or pretzel at the Edinburg Pool.
She was loved by all with her caring personality. She was Jo Jo to many. She had a love for every holiday; her decorating filled the air with warmth and love. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother and friend who truly expressed an exuberance for life and will be missed by many.
