Clair Sixma Obituary

Clair Earl Sixma 88 of Strasburg, VA passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Blue Ridge Hospice In-Patient Care Center, Winchester, VA.

Mr. Sixma was born in Fruitport, Michigan on April 9, 1933, a son of the late Willis and Alta Sixma. His family moved to Virginia where he met his wife, Mary. In 1968 he moved his family to Hamilton, VA from Michigan to be closer to family. He lived in Hamilton until moving to Strasburg, VA in 2019. He has been in Hospice care since 2020 due to his failing health. He was transferred to the Hospice Inpatient Care Center on December 27, 2021, after a fall in his apartment, and passed away peacefully there.

Mr. Sixma was a member of the Loudoun Baptist Church until he moved to Strasburg and became a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Clair has many jobs including working on farms, driving large trucks and some temporary assignments for the government. Upon moving to Virginia, he drove a milk truck delivering milk to homes in Loudoun County. His final job was as an electrician. He worked for Buhl Electric until he was able to get his license and work on his own. He had to retire early due to having multiple heart attacks and his health would not allow him to continue to work. He started volunteering along with his wife Mary for Loudoun County's Special Olympics program, in which his youngest son participated. He also volunteered with the Senior Center in Purcellville, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Wolverton Sixma; brothers, Delbert Sixma, Henry Sixma, and Tom Sixma; and a granddaughter, Danyelle Anderson.

Survivors include his children, Perry Sixma of FL, Chester Sixma of WV, Alta Sufitchi (Peri) of Strasburg, VA, Donna Shipman (Tim) of Rapid City, SD, Matthew Sixma of Sterling, VA, and Fred Sixma of Stephens City, VA; his grandchildren, Debra, Nichole, Jerimiah, Dereck; and several great grandchildren.

A graveside service for Mr. Sixma will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at the Ketoctin Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Keith Warren officiating.

The family asks that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
