Floyd Dodson Obituary

Floyd E. "Ed" Dodson, 89, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Ed was born in 1928 in Middletown, Virginia, the first son of the late Floyd A. and Margaret Brill Dodson.

Ed graduated from Middletown High School, Class of 1948. He was inducted into the James Wood High School Hall of Fame in September 2013 for playing baseball.

Ed was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean conflict; stationed in Chaumont, France, where he played baseball for the base team for three years and traveled to Army and Air Force bases in France and Germany.

He worked for Big A Auto parts before joining the Rubbermaid team in 1969, where he was shipping manager until his retirement. After retiring Ed worked part-time for Truck Suppliers.

Ed was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge, and a member of the Stephens City Lions Club before transferring to the Winchester Shawnee Lions Club in 1982. He received many awards through his membership including Lion of the Year, The Tony Lazzazara Award and The Melvin Jones International Award for Humanitarian Services. Ed was a member of Kernstown United Methodist Church.

He married the love of his life, Joan Kercheval, the daughter of the late John and Rita Kercheval, November 9, 1957 at Braddock Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving with his loving wife of 60 years is a daughter, Tina Lynn Weagley and late husband Paul; grandchildren, Shawn Weagley and wife Lauren, Shane Weagley, and Dawn Fincham and husband Aaron; three great grandchildren; sisters, Linda Estep, Barbara Dodson and the late Judy Dalton and her surviving husband Wayne Dalton; brothers, Carroll, Kenneth and Gary Dodson; as well as his little dog, Emmi, who was the second love of his life.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Aaron Fitch officiating. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel.
Entombment will be private.

Because of Ed's love and compassion of small animals, memorial contributions may be made to Winchester SPCA, 115 Featherbed Lane, Winchester, Virginia 22601; the Briggs Animal Shelter, 3731 Berryville Pike, Charles Town, West Virginia 25414; the Esther Boyd Animal Shelter, 161 Fort Collier Road, Winchester, Virginia 22603; or Kernstown United Methodist Church, 3239 Valley Pike, Winchester, Virginia 22602.
