Born in Woodstock, VA, on June 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Samuel Ray Spence and Peggy Jo Hite Spence Aleshire. Jerry was raised by his mother and his stepfather, Isaac "Pete" Aleshire. He graduated from Central High School in 1962, and after serving six years in the United States Army and the Army National Guard, he was Honorably Discharged. Preston Ashley, Post #228 in Rock Hall, for 54 years. He was also a member of the Rock Hall Lions Club, the Chestertown Elks Lodge #2474, and was a Life Member of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Department, serving his town by fighting fires and as a part of the ambulance crew. He truly loved his family, his friends, and his community.

Jerry and I worked together on projects at the Methodist church in Woodstock. Both of our fathers died during WWII. I always enjoyed talking with Jerry when he visited the American Legion in Woodstock. RIP my friend.
