John Dodson Obituary
John William Dodson Jr., 79, of Charlottesville, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Born June 9, 1937 in Mount Jackson, VA, he was the son of the late John William Dodson Sr., and Ruby Dellinger Dodson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorcas Coleman.
John worked for many years as a Freight Agent for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was involved in many organizations, including the Elks Lodge #389, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Alberene Masonic Lodge #277, the Mount Jackson Moose Lodge, and the VFW Post 1827.
He was an avid billiards player and loved working on his lawn mowers.
John is survived by his wife, Trudy Dodson; his daughter, Brenda Dodson; grandsons, Austin Kane and Dylan Engle, who were his pride and joy; brothers, Alan Dodson and Ronnie Dodson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017 in Mount Jackson Cemetery in Mount Jackson, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
