Larry Barb Obituary

Larry William Barb, 79, of Maurertown, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry was born on September 7, 1945, to the late Marshall "Buck" Barb and Anna Louise Barb of Edinburg, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Barb, and sisters, Rosalee Barb and Ellen Barb.

He is survived by his brother, Brock Barb (Marcie); and sister, Nancy Orndorff; his three daughters, of whom he was very proud: Tammy Sue Cook (Mike), Vickie Lynn Conner (Gregg), and Katrina Louise Keywood (Robert); grandchildren, Zachary Fadely (Chris), Kyle Conner, Katlyn Orndorff (Majesta), and Emily Cook; great-grandchildren, AuBreigh Litten and Marshall Fadely; long-time companion, Diane Heishman, and her family: Rebecca "Granny" Fellar, Dottie Ritenour (Larry), Becky Leland (Ron), Dylan Runion (Paris), Sierra Ritenour, Taylor, Tucker, and Tanner Leland, Walker and Ruby Runion, and Noah Ritenour.

Larry was a jack of all trades, starting as a poultry catcher for his first job. He also worked in construction, which included well digging, carpentry, and operating heavy equipment for Cecil Hollar. While working for Cecil, Larry acquired the nickname "Crash" after he accidentally tore down the stop lights at the intersection of RT11 and RT42 while driving a dump truck. He made the front page of the newspaper for this "mishap" and was quite proud of himself for doing so. After many years of working with Cecil Hollar, Larry secured a job with Manville, where he retired in 2007.

An avid hunter, Larry enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found at his happy place, "Hunters Shanny," every chance he got. This was a special place to him that he enjoyed sharing with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He loved spending time with his family, which often led to him telling stories. No one could tell a story quite like he did; whether they were all true or not, he sure made you believe they were. Larry and Diane were often seen at Italian Touch in Woodstock, having a meal and visiting with family and friends. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him, especially his three girls.

Please join the family in celebrating Larry's legacy on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the Saumsville Christian Church, in Maurertown, Virginia. Pastor Jonathan Fletcher will be officiating, with a meal to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in his memory to the American Heart Association, 4601 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 700, Arlington, VA 22203, or The Alzheimer's Association, 1010 Ednam Center, Suite 203, Charlottesville, VA 22903
