Larry W. Hartsell

Larry Wayne Hartsell passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 74, after a long battle with stomach cancer. When diagnosed he was given 1 year to live, but with determination and a fight of a Marine he survived over 3 years.

Larry was born on August 28, 1951, to Eloise Black and stepfather Jess Black in Mooresville, NC. Passing on before Larry were his parents and his son Joshua McClanahan.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Catherine (McClanahan) Hartsell; son, Bobby Hartsell; daughter, Alyssa Jackson; grandchildren, Haily, Rylea, Levi, Kylea, Zadie and Clyde; brother, Charles Black; sisters-in-law, Ann McClanahan, Janis Spiliadis (Stavros), Susan Alexander (Keith), and brother-in-law Andy Barrick (Belinda); and many nieces and nephews.

Larry served in the US Marine Corps and was a proud Veteran. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. Larry moved to Virginia and went into the trucking industry as an owner operator of 5 Harts Trucking and then became a company driver in his later years. He loved going to Nascar races, traveling especially to Florida, and amusement parks with the kids and grandkids.

A visitation will be held at Heishman Funeral Service in Woodstock on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock at 2:30 P.M, with Pastor Nate Robinson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Hartsell, Levi Hartsell, Stavros Spiliadis, and Nick Ryan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his favorite charity St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
