Larry Heflin Obituary


Larry Townsend Heflin, age 67 of Front Royal, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the home of his niece.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home with Chaplain Jeremy Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Heflin was born on April 12, 1942 in Markham, a son of the late Oscar B. Heflin and Mary Kathleen Vance. He retired from NASA in their archives section. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed swimming, tennis and hiking.

He is survived by his brothers, Charles Heflin of Front Royal and Robert Heflin and wife Mabel of Florida; and his sister, Rita Martin of Front Royal, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Oscar B. Heflin, Jr. in 2008.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Coffman, Frank Stephens, Mike Piercefield, Patrick Piercefield, Howard Sanders and Bill Frye. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Heflin and Noland Edwards.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family request that memorial donations may be made in his name to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
