Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Lawrence Helsley Jr., known affectionately as Junior, passed away peacefully with his daughters by his bedside at the Warren Senior Living Facility on May 11, 2024. He lived an extraordinary life of 94 years which we celebrate, with Thanksgiving.
Junior was born on August 7, 1929, to Lawrence Monroe Helsley and Vernie Kathryn Barton Helsley in Woodstock, Virginia. He was the seventh of twelve children, and had shared many fond memories of his childhood with his children. Junior is predeceased by his wife, Marie Frances Wilt Helsley of 75 years.
Father of four daughters; Geneviève (Jenny) Helsley Kibler, Rebecca Helsley Balon, Beverly Helsley Coker and Tamela Helsley. Grandfather of Harry Kibler Jr. (deceased), Joe Kibler, Wendy Kibler, Clinton Keeler, Aaron Keeler, John Ruff, Megan Ruff Ford, Shannon Perry Wilkins, Alex Garcia and Chelsea Garcia. Great-grandfather of Kenneth Kibler, Hunter Kibler, Kayla Kibler Alcorn, Emilee Guzman, Zacharay Jennelle, Maggie Kibler, Maddox Turner, Graham Keeler, Meah Keeler, Jordan Ford, Joshua Ruff, Olivia Ruff, Tyler Perry, Greyson Wilkins, Lincoln Garcia, Legend Miller and Harlan Miller. Great-great-grandfather of Wyatt Kibler.
Junior was a member of Community Mission Church of the Brethren. He worked for Asbestos Workers Local 24 from 1961 to 1994.
Junior embraced life with vigor, enthusiasm, and a love for his Lord and Savior. He was saved in 1968 at an Oral Roberts Revival and made it his life's mission to witness to the unsaved, hand out Bibles, Tracts and New Christian Life Testaments to anyone who would accept them and listen to the Good News Story.
He was affectionately known to his Girls as "Mr. Fix-it", the always go-to when something was broken or in need of repair. He had a storeroom of parts, plumbing supplies, tools, nuts, bolts and whatever else was needed to keep a home in good order.
He loved anything that had a motor, hood, trunk or doors. No task was ever too great or too small. Fond memories of going "Tire Kicking" every Sunday after church will long be remembered. As a final gift to his four daughters from him was a fully stocked toolbox with wrenches, power tools, and a jar of miscellaneous nuts, bolts and screws.
He was always dressed to impress. He was meticulous with his wardrobe, love of shoes and shopping whenever possible and would often say that a successful day of shopping was when you find a good pair of shoes.
He leaves us with so many beautiful memories of driving in the country, eating ice-cream, fishing, playing dominoes and Uno at the kitchen table.
His Legacy and memories will live on in those that love and miss him.
