Peggy Swecker Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Peggy Ann Swecker, 73, of Strasburg. Having fought valiantly through her struggles with kidney disease, those struggles came to an end in the early hours of Tuesday morning, February 25, at Winchester Medical Center.

Peggy was born December 21, 1951, in Woodstock, VA. Daughter of Paul Leland and Margaret Mitchell Swecker, she grew up on Broadview Farm in Woodstock where the great outdoors was her playground and all creatures great and small were her playmates. Her attachment to animals, especially horses, 4-H calves (including a grand champion Angus steer), dogs, and cats occupied her time and interest as a youngster and continued to be a special part of her life (rarely without a dog by her side) through adulthood. Her current Golden Retriever "babies" are fortunate to have had Peggy's love.

A graduate of Central High School in Woodstock and Madison College (James Madison University) where she earned a BS in Elementary Education, Peggy used her teaching degree in a lifetime career of educating students. When receiving the Town of Strasburg's Teacher of the Year award, she expressed how dedicated she was to all her students and especially how pleased she was to see the successes of those who often struggle. During retirement, she loved her days at the beach on Oak Island and her trips to Myrtle Beach with her best friends.

Peggy is survived by her son, John G. Bullock, III, of Strasburg, whom she loved with all her heart and whose Air Force military service she was especially proud; her stepchildren, Angie Beydler (Mike) of Strasburg and Chris Campbell (Karrie) of Woodstock; her brother, Paul Swecker, Jr. (Becky) of Boones Mill; her sister, Judy Swecker Slaughter (Bob) of Warrenton; and brother, George R. Swecker (Debora) of Woodstock; nieces, Lisa Swecker Wright (Dale) and Ashley Slaughter Iszard (Andrew); nephews, Mark Swecker (Kathy), Brian Swecker (Courtney), and David Swecker (Karen); many Swecker cousins; her forever high school sidekicks and partners in crime; and her beloved Goldens, Beamer and Molly.

A service for Peggy will be held at 1:00 on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Woodstock Presbyterian Church. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at the Massanutten Cemetery, Woodstock. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall following the interment.

The family expresses gratitude to the patient, caring nurses, doctors, and Hospice staff at Winchester Medical Center, Lynn Care in Front Royal (where Peggy was most recently a resident), and to the staff at Davita Winchester who cared for Peggy during her dialysis journey.

Because of her love of animals, local SPCAs would benefit from memorials in Peggy's name ...and she, too, would be pleased.

Rest easy, Peggy. You are loved and will be missed.

I´m truly sorry to hear of Peggy´s passing. Peggy and I taught school together at Strasburg Middle School and her room where she taught was right across the hall from my room. I have a lot of fond memories of her.

She was my English teacher back in 5th grade. She also worked at foxes in town. My friend and I would ask her if we could help clear tables for her. She'd give us each a quarter for each table to wiped off for her, to play in the jukebox. She was such a sweet lady. Rest easy (she'll always be ms.campbell to us kids) thoughts with her family <3

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Peggy and I had the same birthday (I'm a lot older). We always contacted each other on 21 December. RIP my friend.
