Rachel Wetzel Obituary

Rachel Rebecca Wetzel, 84, of Woodstock, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. by Rev. Timothy Nilsen. Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the Dellinger Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Rachel was born near Saumsville in Shenandoah County, Virginia on February 18, 1927 to the late J. Clinton and Florence M. Gochenour Reynolds.

Rachel was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. She was a Virginia 4-H All Star, a former 4-H leader, and a member of the Home Demonstration Club. Rachel also actively volunteered and served as the superintendent of the adult baked goods department at the Shenandoah County Fair for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family as well as to many others in the community who enjoyed her home-cooked meals.

Rachel is survived by her husband, Guy Wetzel of Woodstock; six children, Carolyn Kipps and husband Wayne of New Market, Winnie Wilkins and husband Joe of New Market, William C. Wetzel and wife Donna of Woodstock, Cliff Wetzel of Woodstock, Stephen G. Wetzel and wife Pip of Woodstock, and Rebecca Sheffield of Unalaska, Alaska; twelve grandchildren, Carrie Souder and husband Jeff, Mark Kipps and wife Christy, Kim Wilkins, Chris Wilkins, J.C. Wetzel, Tim Wetzel, Laura Wetzel, Ben Wetzel, Kelly Wetzel, Stacie Markel and husband Keith, Davis Sheffield and Jacob Sheffield; two great-grandchildren, Adam Souder and Ashley Souder; and brothers, John Calvin and Paul Reynolds.

Rachel was preceded in death by her sister, Eula Swartz.

Pallbearers will be Chris Wilkins, Mark Kipps, J.C. Wetzel, Ben Wetzel, Tim Wetzel, and Randy Hoover.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, c/o Mrs. Katrina Swartz, 856 Coffman Rd., Edinburg, Virginia 22824 or the Woodstock Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 221, Woodstock, Virginia 22664.
