Rebecca Craun Obituary

Rebecca Grant Craun, age 94, of Strasburg, VA, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024, with her family by her side.

Rebecca was born to Gypson Roy and Mary Stoneburner Grant on March 17, 1930 in Strasburg, VA. An avid learner, Rebecca attended Strasburg High School and moved on to graduate from Palmer Business School. She lived in Washington, DC briefly prior to moving back home to Strasburg where she worked for Potomac Edison, The Jewel Box, the Town of Strasburg and was the Secretary and Treasurer for Renanco (a family business). Rebecca married William L. Craun (Bill) in 1955. Together they had two daughters, Cathy and Carol. In addition to being a devoted mother and wife, Rebecca was a very active member of Strasburg Christian Church. Over the years she served as a Deacon, Assistant Treasurer, a member of the choir, a Communion Attendant, Bible and Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Christian Women's Followship. Rebecca also gave many hours of her time volunteering at the Compassionate Cupboard, the Strasburg Museum, and the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Rebecca, affectionately known as "Mama" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and a true friend to all those who knew her.

Rebecca is survived by her loving husband William L. Craun (Bill) of 69 years; her sister, Nancy Grant Boger of Front Royal, VA; daughters, Cathy Craun Voyten of Chantilly, VA and Carol Craun Fortier, of Centreville, VA; grandchildren, Shandra Lee and her husband Nathan of Mount Pleasant, SC, Shara Ames and her husband Matt of Highland, MD, Katie Fortier of Fairfax, VA, and Corey Fortier of Centreville, VA; great grandsons, Mason Ames, Liam Lee, Campbell Lee, and Callan Ames.

Rebecca is preceded in death by her brothers Russell G. Grant and Donald S. Grant, both of Strasburg.

A memorial service for Mrs. Craun will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the Strasburg Christian Church with Rev. Rob Lovett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601; or Strasburg Christian Church, 165 High Street, Strasburg, VA 22657.
