Robert Lively Obituary

Robert Wayne "Bob" Lively age 87, of Toms Brook, VA passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning August 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving daughter Rhonda and her husband "Skipper".

Mr. Lively was born in Pax, WV on December 23, 1937, and was raised in Oceana, WV. He is preceded in death by his wife Billie, his parents Les and Aileen Lively and his brothers Alan and Ted.

Bob grew up running the hills of his beloved southern West Virginia hunting, fishing and trapping. He met the love of his life Billie in the 4th grade, married her in 1957 and for 46 glorious years they were inseparable until her death in 2003. Bob graduated from Oceana High School in 1956 accepting a football scholarship to West Virginia University. Returning to Morgantown to football games throughout his life with his family was always one of his favorite past times. Bob, Billie and infant Rhonda moved to northern VA in 1963 where Bob was an educator and football coach at George C. Marshall High School. The Lively's (including Robert) moved to Toms Brook in 1971 where Bob was a positive influence and leader in the community for the remainder of his life. Serving as the Director of Driver Education at Dowell J Howard Vocational Center until he retired in 1994. Bob "unretired" finding purpose in his informal leadership role at the Shenandoah Valley Golf course until he turned 75. Bob served in multiple community leadership roles in the church, Boy Scouts, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Daffodil Days and was a Co-Founder and supporter of Shenandoah County's Response Organization along with his wife Billie. Most importantly Bob was a child of GOD. Jesus was his Lord and Savior, and he rejoices with HIM now for a life well lived and his work on earth complete.

Bob is survived by his two children Rhonda Lively and husband Skipper Stiles of Edinburg, VA, where Bob lived over the past 3 years and Rob Lively and wife Kathy of Loudon, TN. He is also survived by his granddaughters who lovingly called him 'Grampy', Kayla Lively and husband Chris Weller of Westminster, CO and Carly Lively and fiancé Hunter Slaton of Denver, CO along with many other family members who loved and adored him.

The family invites all who knew and loved Bob to pay their respects, share stories, enjoy laughs, cries, and hugs from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, at Stover Funeral Home and Crematory in Strasburg, VA.

A memorial service for Mr. Lively will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Toms Brook United Methodist Church with Pastor Bobby Funkhouser of Building Faith Church at Mount Hebron officiating. There will be a full meal following the service and the family would like all to continue the celebration by breaking bread together.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers be in the form of monetary contributions to Building Faith Church at Mount Hebron, 2582 Mount Hebron Road, Strasburg, VA 22657.
